PAPYRUS
was founded in 1997 by a Lancashire mother, Jean Kerr, and a group of parents who had all lost children through suicide. They wanted to do something positive to prevent similar tragedies happening to young people, their families and friends.PAPYRUS is an acronym of the charity's original name: the Parents Association for the Prevention of Young Suicide - now abbreviated to PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.
The charity's logo depicts the flower of the papyrus reed. As papyrus was used as an early writing paper, it symbolises an organisation that encourages people to communicate with each other.
PAPYRUS is a membership organisation and anyone can join. Members’ experiences and views inform the work and direction of the charity.
Although our main focus spans an age range up to 35, much of our activity is of benefit to all age groups. No-one is refused help.
