SUPERVISING FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH

LEVEL 1 - AWARENESS OF FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH – 5HRS

This awareness course is suitable for everyone as it provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a potential mental health condition, the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost a person towards professional help.

All members of the public can benefit from this course and it is a great stepping stone into First Aid for Mental Health.

The course comprises of 5 hrs of learning – 2hrs of guided learning by trainer (minimum) & 3hrs of self-directed study. The course can be delivered over a 2 week period.

LEVEL 2 - FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH – 7 HRS

This First Aid for Mental Health course is designed to provide learners with a comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation with someone about their mental health.

Building on the Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health, this course introduces the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan. The delegates will be able to provide signposting to professional help and support that person whilst they are receiving professional assistance.

The course comprises of 7 Hrs of learning – 3hrs of guided learning by your trainer (minimum) & 4hrs of self-directed study.

The course can be delivered over a 3 week period.

LEVEL 3 - SUPERVISING FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH - 14HRS

This Supervising First Aid for Mental Health course provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and learn about the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. They will know how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse.

The course comprises of 14 Hrs of learning – 6hrs of guided learning trainer (minimum) & 8hrs of self-directed study. The course can be delivered over a 6 week period.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.
